Disable (A)utomatic (G)ain ©ontrol AGC version 2 and above. First go to tools-->options-->sound Devices-->(UN) tick, Let Skype Adjust My Sound Settings.-->save Reboot/Restart SKYPE i.e Log Out and Back in USING your password. With AGC disabled you can monitor AND ADJUST the microphone level DURING A VOICE CALL using windows recording sound properties. Just drag the slider up or down for best volume without clipping. When the call ends the NEW setting that you just made manually is written back to shared.xml and will be used for the next call. Attention: MS sound recorder will NOT do this job Save Retest and see if its OK. If not do below: Enter: %AppData%\Skype\ in the address bar of Windows Explorer and it will display all files, regardless of whether they’re hidden or not (You need to quit SKYPE first): Use any editor like Word Pad or Word, as shared.xml is a real text file. For Windows XP, you can just double click, amend and save. But you MUST EXIT SKYPE You should check your Shared.xml In <VoiceEng> You need to insert <AGC>0</AGC> (see below) <VoiceEng> <AGC>0</AGC> <------ADD this line and set to zero MicVolume>100</MicVolume> </VoiceEng> Note: For Vers 2.5: 255 is max volume and 0 = low. Range is 0 (off) to 255 (maxim) 255 could be much too high, so please reduce if necessary For Vers 2.6 100 is maxim volume and 0 = low. Range is 0 (off) to 100 maxim. If the volume is too high, the sound will be distorted and clipped Set for best audio quality, use echo123. With AGC disabled you can monitor AND ADJUST the microphone level DURING A VOICE CALL using windows recording sound properties. Just drag the slider up or down for best volume without clipping.
